Terms of Service
Japan Explorer · Effective July 10, 2026
These terms govern your use of the Japan Explorer app. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Japan Explorer.
- You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your credentials secure.
- You may permanently delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account.
Your content
- You keep ownership of the content you create — trash bin reports, itineraries, chat messages, and your profile.
- By sharing content through community features (publishing an itinerary, reporting a trash bin, chatting in a group), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, display, and distribute that content within the app so the features can work.
- You must not post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, deceptive, or that infringes someone else's rights. Automated filters and moderation may remove such content, and repeated violations may result in account termination.
- Trash bin reports must reflect real locations you have observed. Deliberately false reports degrade the map for everyone and may lead to removal of your contributions or account.
- There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. In any group chat you can report a message or block another user by pressing and holding their message. Reported content is reviewed and acted on — including removing content and banning users — typically within 24 hours.
Community information — no guarantees
- Trash bin locations are reported by other users and may be inaccurate, moved, or removed in the real world. They are provided as community guidance, not as verified fact.
- Place information (hours, ratings, photos, locations) comes from third-party providers such as Google and may be out of date. Always confirm important details — especially transit times and opening hours — before relying on them.
- Itineraries, including generated ones, are suggestions. You are responsible for your own travel decisions and safety.
Acceptable use
- Don't attempt to disrupt the service, probe or overload our servers, scrape data at scale, or access other users' data.
- Don't use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of the app store terms under which you obtained it.
Paid features
The app may offer optional paid features or subscriptions in the future. If it does, pricing and terms will be shown before any purchase, and purchases will be handled by the app store's billing systems and their refund policies.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Japan Explorer is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or accuracy of information. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (or ¥1,000 if you paid nothing).
Termination
You may stop using the app at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practical. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (content licenses for already-shared community data, disclaimers, and liability limits) do survive.
Changes
We may update these terms as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above and, where appropriate, announced in the app. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States of America, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
